Everyone knows Thailand’s beaches — but its waterfalls are one of the country’s best-kept secrets. Hidden in cool jungle and national parks, they’re perfect for an adventurous, refreshing day away from the crowds. Here are seven of our favourites and how to reach them.
1. Erawan Waterfall, Kanchanaburi
Seven tiers of brilliant turquoise pools climbing through the jungle — arguably Thailand’s most beautiful waterfall. The lower levels are easy and swimmable; the upper tiers are a proper adventure. See our full Erawan guide →
2. Phlio Waterfall, Chanthaburi
An easy, shaded jungle walk leads to a gentle waterfall full of friendly turtles and fish. A peaceful, family-friendly gem in Eastern Thailand. See our Phlio guide →
3. Mae Ya Waterfall, Chiang Mai
One of Thailand’s tallest, cascading in a wide fan down the mountainside in Doi Inthanon National Park.
4. Thi Lo Su, Tak
A remote, thundering giant deep in the western forest — for travellers who want a real off-the-map adventure.
5. Haew Narok, Khao Yai
A dramatic three-tier plunge in Thailand’s oldest national park, often paired with wildlife spotting.
6. Namtok Sai Khu, Eastern Thailand
A quiet local favourite, ideal for a cool dip on a hot day.
7. Huay Mae Khamin, Kanchanaburi
Erawan’s quieter neighbour — seven tiers with a fraction of the visitors.
Best time to visit: waterfalls are fullest from June to October during the rainy season, but the limestone pools at Erawan stay beautifully green almost year-round.
How to visit them comfortably
Most of Thailand’s best waterfalls are in national parks reached by winding roads, not public buses. The easiest way is a private van with an English-speaking driver who knows the routes and the best time to arrive. Tell us which waterfalls you’d love to see →
