Typical daily cost per person (excluding flights)
- Backpacker — about 1,000–1,200 THB/day: hostel or simple guesthouse, street food and local markets, public transport and the occasional paid activity.
- Mid-range — about 3,000–3,500 THB/day: a comfortable 3-star hotel or smart guesthouse, restaurant meals, taxis and Grab, plus tours and day trips.
- Luxury — about 12,000 THB/day and up: 4–5 star resorts, fine dining, private transfers and premium experiences.

How much does a trip to Thailand cost?
A typical mid-range trip to Thailand costs around 3,000–3,500 THB (about US$90–110) per person per day, covering a comfortable hotel, restaurant meals, local transport and a few activities. Backpackers can travel on roughly 1,000–1,200 THB (US$30–36) a day, while luxury travellers may spend 12,000 THB (US$360+) a day or more. International flights are extra. Is Thailand expensive to visit?
Thailand is one of the best-value destinations in Asia. Food, local transport and accommodation are inexpensive compared with Europe, North America or Australia, so your money goes a long way. Your biggest single cost is usually the international flight to get there.
How much spending money do I need per day in Thailand?
Excluding accommodation and flights, budget roughly 600–800 THB (US$18–24) a day for food, drinks and local transport if you travel comfortably, or 300–400 THB (US$9–12) a day on a tight backpacker budget. Allow more for islands, tours and nightlife.
Do I need a visa to visit Thailand?
It depends entirely on your passport. Many nationalities can enter Thailand visa-free for a set period, others need a tourist visa arranged before travel, and the lists and durations are changed by the Thai government from time to time — so check what currently applies to your nationality rather than relying on an older article. What is the cheapest time to visit Thailand?
The cheapest time is the green (low) season from roughly May to October, when accommodation and flights are cheaper and crowds are smaller. The trade-off is more rain, especially in September and October. The cool, dry high season from November to February costs the most.
